Steps on Getting Your Medical Marijuana Card in Florida

1. MEDICAL EVALUATION

Your first step is to get evaluated by a certified medical marijuana doctor. Only certified marijuana doctors can certify a medical marijuana patient in Florida. You must be a Florida resident and have a valid Florida ID or driver's license. The doctor must follow Florida State Guidlines in regards to their list of qualifying medical conditions. The doctor may also write a recommendation for medical conditions of similar kind or class as those listed.
Insurance, medicare, and medicaid do not cover medical marijuana evaluations, or medical marijuana products.

2. MEDICAL MARIJUANA USE REGISTRY

After a patient is evaluated and certified by the doctor, the patients demographic information is entered into the state of Florida Department of Health Compassionate Use Registry.  Medical history and/or diagnosis information is not shared with the registry. A patient number is issued to each patient. Licensed marijuana growers, dispensaries, and law enforcement use the registry to verify valid patients. In the event that you are stopped by law enforcement while carrying medical marijuana in Florida all you need to do is provide the officer with your medical marijuana ID card or registry number to avoid being detained for carrying medical marijuana.

Once the patient(s) information is entered onto the Medical Marijuana Use Registry, you will receive an email with further instructions to complete your application process. The email will contain a temporary password which you will use to login into the Registry. The username will be the email address provided to the doctor's office. From there, a photo of patients Florida drivers license or ID will need to be uploaded.
The State of Florida has a fee of $75 for the issuance of the Medical Card, which can be paid online through the patients Registry account or patient can mail a check or money order with their Patient ID Number clearly PRINTED in the memo line.

3. MEDICAL MARIJUANA CARD

After the State of Florida approves a patient to recieve the Medical Marijuana Medical Card, they will recieve an email first with their temporary card and card number. Patient can use this print out to go to the dispensary to purchase their first prescription. Soon after patients will recieve their permanent Medical Card in the mail. The Florida Department of Health issues the medical marijuana card directly to the patient. The ONLY valid medical marijuana card in Florida is issued by the Department of Health. If you received a card from any other  source it is a marketing gimmick and NOT valid.

4. USING YOUR MEDICAL CARD

Patient must carry their Medical Card with them whenever they visit Florida Dispensaries or Licensed Marijuana Growers. Disepnsaries and Growers will have access to patients Registry in order to view patients Marijuana Recommendations. A total of (4) recommendations are allowed at one time BUT only one recommendation of each method of use.
A list of all Florida Dispensaries are located at floridahealth.gov but your Certified Doctor may have a list of local dispensaries available to patients.
